Not the super fancy double jointed longboard with drop through mounted trucks. Those are fun but are way harder to ride. Get a pretty big, solid longboard. Take a look at Warehouse Skateboards selection, most of those, in the $180 range, are stellar boards.

Hey I am a fairly experienced rider with long boarding but I have never worn a helmet doing it. I don’t have any money to buy one either. This probably wont work but its worth a shot.

i had an accident saturday and broke my elbow twice. though i had luck and have not to undergo surgery i definetly learned my lesson painful and will buy a helmet and other protection. y’know what? they even look cool! check out those nutcase glow brain! i mean, come on!

I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your son. My daughter is battling with me about wearing a helmet as she says “no one” wears one. I don’t want her to ride the board without one.
